Barbarita Lara is the director of the National Coordinator of Black Women-Carchi Chapter (CONAMUNE-Carchi Chapter) and one of the founders of CONAMUNE (1999). She has a BA in Education and holds a diploma in Cultural Studies from Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar. She was a representative of the regional government of the Decentralized Autonomous Government of Mira (Carchi Province). Barbarita is one of the main members in the Ethnoeducation and School of Oral Tradition (ETOVA) programs in the Chota-Mira Valley. Barbarita Lara was high school and preparatory teacher and served as the director of La Concepción School, “November 19th School”. Barbarita Lara is the co-director of the project, Archaeology of Marronage, a collaboration between CONAMUNE-C and the Latin American Historical Archaeology Lab.
